Besides the obvious, there are things that irk the shit of me, mostly to do with other people. I know people are trying to be helpful, or sympathetic, or they're trying to help me "look on the bright side" but, I don't know, it just irritates me. So here's the list.
-Acne. I hate it. It's bad enough to get pimples on my face, but I have it on my shoulders, back, arms, and chest. Ugly, ugly, ugly.
-When people say, "Stop thinking about getting pregnant and it will happen. As long as you keep stressing about it, it'll never happen for you." If only it were that easy!
-Doctors who say, "All you have to do is lose weight. 10% of your body weight should do it!" Because apparently, the fact that I've had this from the beginning and I didn't gain weight until after I was married doesn't count for anything.
-Menstrual cramps that feel like I'm being run through with an iron rod. **shudder**
-When people say, "I know exactly how you feel." Word of advice, never say this to anyone, ever. Even if you have gone through something similar. No one can know another's pain, we all experience things differently. Instead, try something along the lines of, "I can sympathize. I've been through something similar."
-The medical test. Mostly blood work, which is bad enough. There's also several other procedures that, besides being inconvenient, are just plain painful.
Believe it or not, there are some good things that come out of having PCOS and being infertile. Here are a few.
-Not having periods. Now, when you're trying to have a baby, this can be a real pain in the butt. Lets get real though, having your period sucks ass!
-Getting to take new and fun drugs. I'm on one now called Metphormin, which causes you to lose weight. Woohoo!
-Being able to use a big term like Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome. It makes you sound smart.
-Never having mood swings. I don't have enough of the right kind of hormones, so I never get them, even when I do get my period.
-Never getting migraines. I have them now, but that's only because the doctor has me on hormones, otherwise, I'm migraine free.
-Having a high sex drive. This one's my favorite.
So, I guess the point is, you take the good with the bad. Or, when life gives you lemons, make lemonade. Or how about, every cloud has a silver lining. Take your pick.
